Most debts purchased by debt collection companies are time-barred or legally invalid.
Every debt has a time limit under the law. Once that period ends, the creditor may no longer be able to take the claim to court. Debt collection companies often buy these debts for pennies—sometimes just 2–5% of their original value—and then pressure you to pay, hoping you don't know your rights.
One proper response to the court can overturn a payment order. This could mean the end of a problem that has tormented you for years.
Silence is not an answer. Failing to respond to a payment order is the worst mistake you can make.
Debt recovery companies and securitization funds often use fear and intimidation to pressure people into paying. They may send repeated letters, call throughout the day, or even threaten court action and bailiffs. They do this because they know many people will give in and pay simply because they feel intimidated.

Do not sign settlement agreements with debt collectors without consultation. You may acknowledge a time-barred debt and lose the right to defend yourself.
Many people believe that once a bailiff gets involved, there’s nothing left to do. That’s not true. There are legal options that may help suspend, limit, or even stop enforcement proceedings altogether. What matters is taking action instead of simply sitting back and doing nothing.
